The Source of Inspiration.
A good while back I had a kid working for me, just a couple hours per week, basically just washing dishes and whatever extras we needed (garbage, boxes folded etc.)
He was very overweight and not extremely motivated, nearing the end of high school and didn’t have much in the way of specific future plans.
He was passionate about video games, T.V. and not much else. Sometimes he would show up, sometimes not.
Honestly, it was sort of a charity case.
At home, it was just him and his mom who was a hard worker that did her very best to provide as a single parent.
Flash-forward a few years and I run into him.
He was about 75 pounds leaner, has a full-time job, and is excited about his future.
A very cool thing about being around the block for a few decades is when you see positive change in what may be a surprising source. Change that is from within and inspired and this young man had it.
I think motivation can be prompted by either inspiration or possibly desperation, but in the end it doesn’t really matter. Some are prompted by the carrot, some by the stick.
I congratulated him on his transformation and asked him how he did it.
He said “I moved away, and have to walk everywhere I go because I don’t have a car——-YET!”
I smiled and shook his hand.
Inspiration can come from the most unlikely sources.
Keep your eyes open.
