I have always believed in the concept of hard work to realize an excellent result.
In the category of fitness, great results are not obtained with ease and randomness of focus, but only consistent, dedicated effort daily.
Like fitness, most other areas of life follow suit.
Work, relationships, skills, even spirituality require this same focus.
I believe in each of us there is a “barometer” that relays to us how we are scoring in all of life’s categories.
Deep down we know where we are giving our best efforts and where we need to step it up.
Looking at my own life, I have always believed that certain things that I aspired to do or be came a whole lot easier than other things.
Job interviews, easy.
Concentrating on one thing at a time, hard.
Living/being on the moment, hard.
Breaking things down upon further inspection, it occurred to me the common denominator in what I perceived as easy was not only the hard work I applied but also in large part due to repetition and a clear focus.
The things that I found that came easy to me “coincidentally” were also things that I spent a disproportionate amount of time thinking about (visualizing), researching (finding the best path) and actually doing (focused effort.)
I have mentioned previously spending a huge amount of time in my early teens learning to play the guitar.
There was a long “lag” time where attempting to play guitar was extremely awkward and frustrating.
I can’t say exactly when, but at some point things started to click and playing felt very natural and fluid.
It may be weeks, it may be months, it may even be years, but at some point your reality will be the end result of your vision and efforts.
In the realm of fitness, it is the same basic principle.
- Get very clear about what you want to achieve. (visualizing)
- Figure out the best path to success. (finding the best path)
- Give your best effort towards the goal daily. (focused effort)
Making a firm commitment of effort with your “compass” pointed to the direct path of the end result of your choosing and focusing on that each day will bring about fabulous results.
