I’ve been experimenting with training for much of the past few years. and one of the fundamental keys that I’m focused on is program flexibility.
There are a ton of excellent templates out there in internet land, but very few offer true flexibility.
Sure, there are a myriad of options you could plug in, some even include spreadsheets, but the flexibility I’m speaking of is one of often “game time decision.”
I know firsthand the frustration of cruising along with a particular program, having great results, but then WHAMO, you are forced to miss a session(s), or you are forced to curtail gym time for whatever reason.
These unexpected twists on our schedule, these acts of God, while frustrating in the moment, are probably actually a good thing in the organic arc of a natural trainee’s progression, especially for the advanced in age.
This week, actually for quite some time, more often than not, my time to train is limited, so I make the most of it. If I have thirty minutes, I can still immerse myself in a productive session. Today was a good example;
Training: Warm-up of dumbbell swings 20×15,15
Chin-ups: BW+10×15,15, BW+20×10, BW+25×7, BW+30×5, BW+35×5, BW+44×3, BW+50×2, BW+55×2, BW+60×1, BW+62.5×1
